Painting over the years has shown me that lightness is strength. The unseen appears like a mirage in the desert and can disappear just as quickly before your eyes. But you have to keep it from disappearing. You have to trust your imagination, and allow yourself to be swept along, carried by that stream of thought and emotion. I've painted silence and the beginning of the world. I've also made a painting of how water feels when you jump into it. When people see a painting that is diametrically opposed to something I've created before, it often shocks them. They expect me to be only a certain type of artist. I've made violent paintings, where my whole body is twisting and turning. And other times, my brush just seems to whisper upon the canvas. And then, suddenly, I just transform into a whole other kind of person.
